Sharon Gaarsland

Sharon Marie Gaarsland, 59, a resident of rural Vining, died Monday, October 18, 2010, at her home under the care of Lakeland Hospice. Shari was born on April 24, 1951 in Aberdeen, South Dakota, the daughter of Gordon and Betty Ann (Backer) Geuke. She grew up in Zell, SD and attended Redfield High School.  On June 30, 2001 she married Joel Gaarsland in Vining, MN. Over the years she worked in the insurance industry. She was employed with Farmers-Lynse Insurance as a licensed agent for 20 years and also at Spangler Real Estate Partners as a licensed agent assistant for nine years. Preceding her in death were her daughter, Annette Gardin, and a granddaughter, Samantha O’Daniel. Survivors include her husband, Joel Gaarsland of Vining; her parents, Gordon and Betty Geuke of Zell SD; two daughters, Lisa Kast (Rick Larson) of Wendell and Nicole (Link) O’Daniel of Fergus Falls; grandchildren, Shanda Brown (Shaun Kugler) of Wahpeton, ND, Dustin Gardin of Fergus Falls, Tiffani Klinger, Tasha Listrom both of Wendell and Shayla Benjamin and Alexis O’ Daniel of Fergus Falls; one great-grandchild, Julianna Mauch; siblings, Brian (LaRae) Geuke of Zell, SD, Kevin (Rhonda) Geuke of Redfield, SD, Randy (Nicolle) Geuke of Deadwood, SD, Becky (Shane) Mins of Miller, SD, Barb (Delvin) Sheridan of Ashton, SD, Kim (Les) Taken of Watertown, SD and Sandy Stevens of St. Cloud. Also surviving are her mother and father-in-law, Linda and David Gaarsland of Battle Lake, and many nieces and nephews. A private family service will be held at a later date. Olson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
