Sara Beth Hooper, 65, a resident of Fergus Falls and formerly of Oklahoma, died peacefully on Monday, May 19, 2008, at the Broen Memorial Home in Fergus Falls with her family at her side. She was born November 13, 1942, in Cushing, Oklahoma, the daughter of Melvin and Cora Vanita (Bowers) Skelton. She grew up in Cushing, graduating from high school there in 1961. She married Richard Daugherty and they moved to the Salt Lake City military base. Later in life she married Donny Hooper. She worked as an assistant pastry chef for ten years. In 2004 she retired and moved to Fergus Falls to be near her children and grandchildren. Sara enjoyed being with her family and pets 'til the end. She loved gardening and going to stomp dances and Pow Wows. Preceding her in death were her parents, Melvin and Cora Skelton; a brother; a son, Thomas Smith; and one husband, Richard Daugherty. Survivors include two sons: Ricky Daugherty of Fergus Falls, and Mathew Barnett of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; a daughter, Jamie Mason and her partner Cathy of Fergus Falls; five grandchildren, Trista, Joshua, Heather, Mindy and Jorjan; two sisters, Joan Strong, and Dianna Waldo; and many nieces and nephews along with extended family and friends. She also leaves behind her two loving companions, her dog, Alexia and her cat, Spitz. Her memorial service will be held in her home for family and friends. The family would like to thank Lakeland Hospice and all the wonderful staff at the Broen Memorial Home for all of their help and understanding during this time of need.
