Sara Louella Anderson, 92, a resident of Fergus Falls, died Wednesday, June 20, 2018, at Eventide in Moorhead, MN.
She was born on January 12, 1926, in Minneota, Minnesota, the daughter of Adolph and Selma (Nelson) Heggeseth. Sara was baptized and confirmed at Hemnes Lutheran Church near Minneota. She attended the rural district elementary school and the Minneota High School. Sara graduated from Mankato State College and took post-graduate classes at the University of Minnesota – Minneapolis and at Moorhead State University. She taught English at Clarkfield High School from 1945-1948.
On June 20, 1948, Sara married Sylvan Anderson of Clarkfield at Hemnes Lutheran Church near Minneota. In 1949, they moved to Minneapolis where they lived till 1953 when they moved to Fergus Falls. The couple had two children, Sandra and Lawrence (Larry). Sara taught English for 26 years in the Fergus Falls Public Schools.
Sara was a member of Zion Lutheran Church where she was active in Women of the ELCA, Esther Circle, Prayer Fellowship and Choir. She was a member and past secretary of Kenmore Reading Club and Y’s Folks. She volunteered for Reading Newspaper for the Blind on the radio and for the AARP tax program at the Fergus Falls Senior Center.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Sylvan in 2001; an infant brother, George; two infant sisters, Helga and Sylvia; two brothers, Eric and Leonard Heggeseth; three sisters, Vivian Cullip, Waldeen Olson, and Clarice Danielson.
Survivors include her daughter, Sandra (Edward) Cegla of Moorhead, MN; her son, Lawrence (Kathleen) Anderson of Detroit Lakes, MN; four grandsons, Bradley (Candace) Cegla, Joseph (Megan) Cegla, Timothy (Joanne) Cegla, Luke (Elizabeth) Anderson; 10 great-grandchildren, Hannah, Noah, Elijah, Bennett, Sophie, Jackson, Mason, Jameson, Gavin, Quinn; brother, Conrad (Joan) Heggeseth; sister, Edith (Clifford) Jeremiason; and sister-in-law, Mary O’Trimble.
Visitation: One hour prior to the service at the church
Service: 2 p.m. Thursday, June 28, 2018, at Zion Lutheran Church, Fergus Falls
Clergy: Reverend Chris Eldredge and Reverend Nancy Eldredge Hess
Interment: Oak Grove Cemetery, Fergus Falls, MN
