Sanford Blaine Paulson

Sanford Blaine Paulson, 81, a resident of Fergus Falls, died Friday, December 4, 2015, at his home, under the care of Lakeland Hospice.
He was born on September 7, 1934, in Fergus Falls, to Selmer H. and Borghild (Haarstad) Paulson. He attended first through eighth grade at country school District #139. He graduated from Washington High School in Fergus Falls in 1952. He was drafted by the United States Army and was enlisted from 1957 to 1959, serving in Germany.
On June 1, 1957, Sanford was united in marriage to Gail McCrossin. Together they had two children. Sanford worked for Mid Am Dairy in various job positions, for forty-three years, retiring in 2000. He also farmed his home farm until 1996. On August 26, 2000, he was married to Virginia “Ginny” Roberts Thom.
Sanford was a member of the Fergus Falls VFW, the Fergus Falls Senior Center, Riverside Lions, Aastad Lutheran Church and church council, and the Lions reading program board of directors.
He enjoyed gardening, making spicy tomato juice and watching the Minnesota Twins, Vikings and the NDSU Bison football team. He also enjoyed watching R.F.D. TV and spending time working in the yard and gardens, and tending to the fish in the pond.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Selmer and Borghild Paulson; his wife, Gail Paulson; and a sister, Joycelyn Weiby.
He is survived by his wife, Virginia “Ginny” Roberts Thom; his children, Dean (Sandra) Paulson of Fergus Falls and Darla (Tony) Christenson of Fergus Falls; four grandchildren, Allison (Zak) Holtan of Fort Collins, CO, Aaron Paulson of Fergus Falls, Hunter Christenson of Fergus Falls and Morgan Christenson of Fergus Falls; a brother, Orrin Paulson of Mesa, AZ; special friends, Calvin and Helen Johansen; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Aastad Lutheran Church or the Lakeland Hospice Foundation.
Visitation: 5:00-7:00 PM on Monday, December 7, 2015, at the Olson Funeral Home with a prayer service at 6:30 PM and one hour before the service at the church
