Selma “Sally” Olinda Spitsberg, 92, formerly of Dalton, died Tuesday, March 16, 2010, at the Evansville Care Center in Evansville. She was born February 16, 1918, in Dalton, Minnesota, the daughter of Carl and Inga (Estvold) Sonmor. She attended school at District 8 in Dalton and at Fergus Falls High School. On December 14, 1935 she married Anton Spitsberg at the church parsonage in Dalton. After their marriage they lived in Dalton and Fergus Falls prior to moving to California in 1942, where Sally worked as a beautician. They returned to Dalton in 1946, and she continued her work as a beautician. In 1991 she began working in home health care, retiring in 1998. Sally was a member of Our Saviors Church in Dalton, and the Sons of Norway. She enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, cooking, and gardening. She also loved to travel. Preceding her in death were her husband, Anton, in 1984; a daughter, Shareen Tabyanan in 1967; her parents; and four brothers, Melvin, Earl, Ernest, and Harold Sonmor. Survivors include a son, Dale (Alice) Spitsberg of Ashby; five grandchildren: Robin (Teri) Spitsberg, Susan (Dan) Piekarski, Heather (Wade) Erickson, Craig Tabyanan, and Susan (John) Erickson; ten great-grandchildren: Mathew Spitsberg, Kelsey Spitsberg, Alisha Piekarski, Kevin Piekarski, Shelby Erickson, Matia Erickson, Willem Erickson, Torin Erickson, Haakon Erickson, and Hans Erickson; and a sister, Olive Jensen of Brainerd.
