Sady G. Newell, 91, a resident of Fergus Falls, died peacefully on April 12, 2017, at PioneerCare in Fergus Falls, under the care of LB Hospice.
Sady was born December 15, 1925, to George and Clara (DeYoung) Brolsma in Eldred. She grew up near Crookston and attended school there.
On October 20, 1942, she married Bennie C. Newell in Crookston. They lived in Gentilly, Beltrami, Crookston, Albuquerque, NM, and many years in Fertile, MN. Sady worked at a variety of positions during her career ending as the administrative assistant to the president at the University of MN and Northwest Experiment Station in Crookston, retiring in 1987. Sady and Ben enjoyed several winters in Arizona after retiring. Sady moved to Fergus Falls in November of 2009 living at Pioneer Pointe, Mill Street and moving to PioneerCare in February of 2014. The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to the care givers and staff at PioneerCare for the loving attention given Sady these last three years.
Sady was a member of Concordia Lutheran Church in Fertile where she was active in their Ladies Aid. She was a strong, independent person with a quick wit. She enjoyed crocheting, reading, crossword puzzles, playing cards (especially whist and pinochle) traveling, and was an avid Minnesota Twins fan. She collected Delft dishes from her parents’ native Holland and loved collecting spoons from the places she visited. During her days at PioneerCare Sady was well known for her affinity for M&M’s and never turned down a chance to have ice cream and chocolate.
Preceding her in death were her parents, George and Clara Brolsma; her husband, Bennie in 1997; one son, Darrel in 2009; brothers, George, Allan, and Herman.
She is survived by two sons, Ronald (Caroljean) of Mapleton, MN and Norman (Ann) of Dalton and daughter-in-law Linda of Green Valley, AZ. Eight grandchildren, Michael, Meghan, Lance (Karin), Ryan (Kelly), Monessa, Eric (Rebecca), Marc (Kari), David (Alicia), and 14 great-grandchildren Otis, Ridley, Alexander, Caden, Isabel, Savanna, Katherine, Amelia, Parker, Sawyer, Kya, Macia, Siri, Lyra. Two sisters, Charlene Terpstra of Crookston, Agnes Johnstone of Ada; one brother, John (Margaret) Brolsma of Bloomington; sister-in-law, June Geddes, of Sun City, AZ; and several nieces and nephews.
Memorials preferred to LB Hospice or the PioneerCare Foundation.
