Ruth Honrud, 96, formerly of rural Rothsay, died Saturday, January 3, 2015, at her son’s home in Fergus Falls, where she had been living for the last two months.
She was born December 17, 1918, in Hayfield, MN, the daughter of Frederick and Amalia (Gronseth) Peterson. She attended country school through the eighth grade and looked forward to finishing high school, which would have been completed in Breckenridge. She and a friend searched for two days for a family to live with and a job for support, but to no avail. Ruth later finished a course at New York Hairdressing Academy in Fargo, ND.
On May 14, 1942, Ruth and Bennie Honrud were married in Detroit Lakes. They farmed in the Rothsay/Erhard area. Ruth lived on the farm until June of 2014, when she had a brief stay at PioneerCare in Fergus Falls and then moved to her son, Michaels’s home in Fergus Falls, with the help of Hospice.
Ruth was an honorary member of Grace Lutheran Ladies Circle. She loved going to garage sales, and embroidering, providing many delightful dish towels for the annual Grace Bazaar. In her younger years, she enjoyed snowmobiling.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her stepmother, Ella (Carlsrud); her husband, Bennie; a son, Timothy Honrud; a grandson, Steven Honrud; a great-grandson, Jayme Honrud; four sisters and one brother.
Survivors include her sons, Gary Lee Honrud of Rothsay and Michael Steven Honrud (Cyrilla Grover) of Fergus Falls; great-grandchildren, Tyler Ben, Michael Allen, Ben Timothy and Brittany Schultz Honrud; a brother, Johnnie (Arvilla) Peterson of Fergus Falls and many nieces and nephews.
