Ruth Agnes Carlsrud, 91, a resident of Fergus Falls and formerly of Rothsay, died Thursday, August 8, 2013, at the Pioneer Cottages in Fergus Falls.
She was born May 13, 1922, near Sabin, Minnesota, the daughter of Arthur and Betty (Stender) Ernst. She grew up and attended school in the Sabin area. As a young woman she attended a baseball game with her sister, where she met Ernest. The couple was married on February 20, 1948, in Rothsay. They farmed in the Rothsay area until moving into Rothsay in 1969, and moved to PioneerCare in 2008. Ernest passed away in 2010.
Ruth was a seamstress, baker, and enjoyed quilting, crocheting, and upholstering. She loved her walks before breakfast. She also enjoyed the MN Twins, listening to radio bible broadcasts, and flower gardening. She was a member of New Life Church where she participated in Ladies Aid.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Ernest; six sisters, Alice Ernst, Elaine Bontjes, Mary Lou Pender, Dorothy Charlton, Geneva Carlsrud, and a twin, Ruby Gunderson; nine brothers, David, Arnold, Ray, Louis, “Buzz” Leonard, Roy, Alfred, Carl and Leo Ernst; and a son-in-law, Larry Dorn.
Survivors include five children: Duane (Karol) Carlsrud of Bloomington, Pat (Dana) Nelson of Rothsay, Nancy Dorn of Mission Viejo, CA, Bruce Carlsrud of Fargo, and Vicki (Greg) Bauman of Hickson, ND; 14 grandchildren: Nathan (Stacy) Carlsrud, Anna Cantlon, Chad (Heather) Nelson, Scott (Carol) Nelson, Kelly (Crystal) Nelson, Jesse (Ashley) Dorn, Todd (Bri) Dorn, Dustin Dorn, Joshua (Kim) Dorn, Macklin, Teagan and Addison Carlsrud, Amity (Jeremy) Johnson, and Tyler (Neima) Bauman; 17 great-grandchildren; a brother, Walter Ernst; two sisters, Ardis Randall and Karen Prim; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation: 4-6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, with a 5:30 p.m. prayer service, and resumes one hour prior to the service at the church.
Service: 10:30 a.m. Monday, August 12, 2013, at New Life Lutheran Church in Rothsay

Interment: Hamar Cemetery, Rothsay
