Ruth Evangeline Brenden, 95, of Rothsay, died Tuesday, December 4, 2007, at the Broen Memorial Home in Fergus Falls. She was born May 5, 1912, in Trondjhem Township of Otter Tail County, Minnesota, the daughter of Syver and Louise Marie (Hovland) Brenden of Norwegian heritage. She was baptized at home and confirmed at Our Savior's Lutheran Church of Rothsay. Ruth attended rural school District #82 through the eighth grade. She then continued to work on the family farm. She was a lifelong member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church where she was organist for over 20 years and also taught Sunday School for many years. Ruth was a member of the Trondjhem Homemakers and the Rothsay American Legion Auxiliary Ellingson/Brenden Post since 1942. Her hobbies included gardening and also handiwork such as embroidery. Preceding her in death were her parents, Syver and Louise; two sisters, Lillian Brenden and Violet Brenden; and five brothers: Axel, Selmer, Arnie, Bennie and an infant brother, Oscar. Survivors include her brother, Lloyd Brenden of Fergus Falls; three nieces: Arlene Westberg of Hoffman, Joyce (Bob) Bruns of Fergus Falls and Jane (Glen) Buchholz of Breckenridge; two nephews: Eldon Brenden and Selvin (Margaret) Brenden all of Rothsay; as well as numerous cousins, great nieces and great nephews. Visitation: 2:30 - 4 p.m. Friday at the Light & Life Auditorium of the Broen Memorial Home in Fergus Falls, with a 3:30 p.m. prayer service and resumes one hour prior to the service at the church.
