Russell Dean Saurer

Russell D. Saurer, 73, a resident of Fergus Falls, died peacefully Saturday, June 22, 2024 at PioneerCare in Fergus Falls.

Russell was the fifth of ten children born to Victor and Lillian (Husfeldt) Saurer. He spent his younger years in Elizabeth and Big Falls, MN and moving to Clitherall, MN in 1967.

September 8, 1982, he married Kathryn Hanson and together they were blessed with four children and 11 grandchildren.

During the 1980’s he had Saurer’s Garbage Service providing services around the lakes area followed by various jobs throughout the years. In the early 2000’s he resided back to his hometown roots of Elizabeth, MN.

Russell enjoyed fishing, playing cards, especially whist. He was a social person. In his younger years he enjoyed times at the local water holes, particularly Bonnie & Clydes and the Purple Palace. He also enjoyed races at Weetown and later I94 Speedway cheering on the Saurer Teams.

His kids and grandkids were his pride and joy. He loved going to all family gatherings and activities they were involved in, particularly watching them play in sports. Russell was a jokester. He loved making people smile and always had a good laugh.

Russell is survived by his wife Kathryn (Hanson) Saurer; his children Shelly (Brady) Grunewald, Dean (Tiffany) Saurer, Dustin Saurer, Kari Saurer (Ben Karsnia); grandchildren Elsa, Owen, Alisa, Emma, Jayden, Leia, Ayla, Rylie, Ryker, Camden, and Cayson; brothers, Kenneth (Sue) Saurer and Melvin Saurer; sisters, Betty (Al) Woida, Eunice (George) Woida and Loraine (Steve) Martineau; brothers and sisters-in-laws, nieces and nephews. A special thank you to the Soland family and extended friends.

Proceeding him in death were his parents, Victor and Lillian Saurer; sister, Carol Hanson; brothers, Rudolph Saurer, Wesley Saurer and Harland Saurer.

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burden and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” Matthew 11:28-30

Graveside Service: 10:00 a.m. Thursday, June 27, 2024 at St. Elizabeth Catholic Cemetery in Elizabeth, MN. Fellowship will follow the service at the Elizabeth Community Center downtown Elizabeth.
