Russell F. Johnson, 65, of Fergus Falls, died Thursday, December 26, 2013, at Lake Region Healthcare, Fergus Falls.
He was born to Fredolph and Dorothy (Sederberg) Johnson on May 18, 1948, in Braham, Minnesota.
Russell attended Cambridge High School, graduating in 1966. He then attended Brown Institute in Minneapolis, graduating with a Computer Science Degree.
On August 28, 1971, he married Sandra Lee Cuper at the Holy Trinity Orthodox Church in Clayton, Wisconsin and they resided in New Brighton. Russ was employed at Serv Stat, which became Comserv Corp. for 23 years. He then worked for Dun and Bradstreet Software, and Fourth Shift Corp. Russ and Sandy relocated to Fergus Falls and he was employed at Microsoft Corporation, as a systems analyst, in Fargo, ND, retiring on November 15, 2007.
Russell was instrumental in establishing the mission church Saint Hermans Orthodox Church, South Minneapolis, being the treasurer for many years. He was also a member of St. Mary’s Orthodox Cathedral in North East Minneapolis and was currently a member of Bethel Lutheran Church in Fergus Falls. He enjoyed the lake, maintaining and doing building projects on a full-time basis there, as well as maintaining their home in Fergus Falls. He was also a computer expert who fixed, built and helped people with their computer issues.
Preceding him in death were his parents and a niece, Genell Johnson.
Survivors include his wife Sandra Lee Johnson of Fergus Falls; his beloved pet dog, Angel Gracie; siblings, Carole (Ronald) Mahaffey of Eau Claire, WI, Shirley (William) Ristow of Ellensburg, WA, Kenneth W. (Lillian) Johnson of Faribault, MN; brothers-in-law, Dale (Mary) Cuper of Clayton, WI, and Tom (Patty Putzier) Cuper of Clayton, WI; an aunt, Donna Stone of Fridley, MN, and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Bethel Lutheran Church or Lake Region Healthcare Cancer Center, both of Fergus Falls.
Visitation: 1 hour prior to the service at the church
