Russell D. Haagenson, 84, a resident of Fergus Falls, died peacefully Tuesday, February 26, 2008, at the Minnesota Veterans Home in Fergus Falls. Russell Dewain was born October 19, 1923, in rural Paynesville, MN, the son of Melvin and Nellie Haagenson. He was baptized and confirmed at Nordland Lutheran Church, rural Paynesville. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II from March of 1945 to November of 1946 in the Phillipines. He then attended the Brown Institute in Minneapolis for radio and TV repair. Russ met Ruby and they were married November 30, 1947 in Cosmos, Minnesota. They had one son and two daughters. Russ worked from 1952 to 1971 at Warren's Radio and TV in Fergus Falls which he co-owned with Warren Rud. From 1972 to 1989 he was the Chief Maintenance Engineer at the Broen Memorial Home in Fergus Falls. He was a member and past president of the Otter Tail County Sheriff's Posse; the V.F.W.; and Augustana Lutheran Church, where he served on various church boards. Russ enjoyed fishing, woodworking, gardening, motorcycling, camping, and traveling. He was a kind, gentle and caring man who was always willing to share and offer his help. He was constantly grateful for all of the blessings God had bestowed upon him. Preceding him in death were his parents, a sister, Phyllis Anderson, and two brothers-in-law, Raymond Anderson and Warren Rud. Survivors include his wife, Ruby, of Fergus Falls; his children, Lynn (Mary Waller) Haagenson, and Karin (Steven C.) Johnson all of Fergus Falls, and LuAnn (Pete) Dehne of Brooklyn Park, MN; six grandchildren: Abby and Tina Johnson, Alyssa and Kelsey Dehne, and Rachel and Sam Busko; and his siblings: Clarice (Lloyd) Rudd of Fergus Falls, Kenneth (Barbara) Haagenson of Plymouth, MN, Gerald (Beverly) Haagenson of Crystal, MN, Raymond (Emilie) Haagenson of Plymouth, MN, Marjorie (Dennis) Anderson of Golden Valley, MN, and Glenn (Linda) Haagenson of Eugene, OR. Visitation: 5-7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service at the church.
