Russell Milton Anderson

July 18, 1925 — August 7, 2016

Russell Milton Anderson, age 91, of rural Rothsay, passed away on Sunday, August 7, 2016, at PioneerCare in Fergus Falls.

Russell was born in Rothsay, MN, on July 18, 1925, to Alfred and Irene (Zimmerman) Anderson. He grew up on the family farm in Oscar Township and attended country school at District 127.

On September 11, 1946, Russell married Lucille Duenow at the Hamar Parsonage in Rothsay. He was a life-long member of Hamar/New Life Lutheran Church of Rothsay. Russell and Lucille lived on the family farm until 1958, when they moved to Rothsay to operate the Phillips 66 Service Station and Hiway Café.

In 1972, the couple moved back to the family farm and continued farming and buying and selling antiques. Russell was famous for having early potatoes and sweet corn. Russ and Lucy sold their farm produce and antiques on weekends at Shady Hollow Flea Market new Detroit Lakes. Russell also worked for Olaf Olson and Trosvig Farms during spring planting and fall harvest.

Russell was an avid fisherman, hunter and trapper. He made many hunting and fishing trips to northern Minnesota, Canada, Wyoming and Montana. He was especially proud of the successful hunting trip in 1965 to hunt moose in Alaska with his brother-in-law, Vernon Duenow.

Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife, Lucille; son, Richard; daughter-in-law, Robin; brothers, Alden, Irvin, Dennis and Darrell; and sisters, Adlore, Avis and Audrey.

Russell is survived by his sons, Rodney (Genevieve Austin) Anderson of Fergus Falls and Randy (Julie Balk) Anderson of Richville; a daughter-in-law, Pat (Alan) Hoff of Fergus Falls; grandchildren, Jill (Troy) Christensen, Sara (Jason) Krumwiede, Kate Anderson, and Michele Anderson (Spencer McGrew); great-grandchildren, Haley and Nathen Christensen and Payton Spitzer; brother, Merle (Mavis) Anderson; sister, Luverne Morstad; and numerous nephews, nieces and extended family.
