Rudolph “Rudy” J. Langston, 92, a resident of Fergus Falls, died Tuesday, October 22, 2013, at PioneerCare in Fergus Falls.
He was born June 14, 1921, in Foxhome, Minnesota, the son of Thomas and Pauline (Mitz) Langston. He grew up in the area, attending school in Foxhome before graduating from Breckenridge High School in 1939. Rudy farmed with his dad until enlisting in the U.S. Navy in 1942. He served aboard a USS PCE (Patrol Craft Escort) all over the world except Africa during World War II, until his discharge in 1947 as a Gunners Mate 1st Class.
He returned from the war back to Foxhome, where he was employed by Kilde Company as a welder in Fergus Falls.
On March 15, 1947 he married DeLores Johnson at Vukku Lutheran Church in Foxhome. In May of 1956 he began his employment with Otter Tail Power Company, working as a welder and mechanic. He retired from there as the Assistant Superintendent of Transportation in July of 1986. He and DeLores lived in the Foxhome area until 1982 when they moved to Fergus Falls. After retirement Rudy and DeLores enjoyed traveling throughout the United States.
He was a member of First United Church of Christ, the VFW, and the Eagles, and served as Mayor of Foxhome for a time.
Rudy enjoyed spending time outdoors, especially hunting and fishing with his boys, and gardening. In his later years he liked to tinker on household projects.
Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife, DeLores in April of this year; three brothers, Ray, Ralph “Fritz”, and Robert “Hans” Langston; and two sisters, Rena Fredricks and Ruth Andrews.
Survivors include two sons, Dennis (Kathy) Langston and Todd Langston, both of Fergus Falls; five grandchildren: Tracy, Samantha, Nathan, Brandon, and Abby; four great-grandchildren: Keon, Joshua, Jenna and Dylan; a sister-in-law, Marie “Sis” Oliphant of Foxhome; and numerous nieces and nephews
Visitation: 5-7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home and resumes one hour prior to the service at the church.
Service: 11 a.m. Saturday, October 26, 2013, at First United Church of Christ in Fergus Falls
