Rudolph “Rudy” W. Johansen, 70, a resident of Dalton, died Saturday, September 29, 2012 at Sanford Hospital in Fargo, ND.
Rudy was born on November 18, 1941 in Fergus Falls, the son of Sverre and Lena (Nelson) Johansen. He grew up in the Fergus Falls area, attending school in Dalton, Fergus Falls and Ashby. He served in the National Guard.
On August 11, 1962, he married Kathleen Nelson at Tordenskjold Lutheran Church in rural Underwood. Together they had one daughter, Kimberly Anne. The family lived in Dalton and Rudy was employed by Park Region Telephone Company for 35 years, retiring in 1996.
He was the mayor of Dalton, a member of the Dalton/Ashby American Legion, Our Saviors Ten Mile Lake Lutheran Church and served on the Dalton Fire Department. He enjoyed being outdoors, hunting, fishing and playing softball. He also enjoyed having coffee and visiting with family and friends. His door was always open.
Preceding him in death were his parents; wife, Kathleen; who died in 1999; nephew, Trevor Moen, who died in 2001 and brother-in-law, Orvin Rustad.
Survivors include his daughter, Kim (Greg) Neisen of Clearwater; grandsons, Shawn and Spencer Neisen of Clearwater; sister, Marie (Donnie) Moen of Dalton; brother, Reuben (Carolyn) Johansen of Dalton; sisters-in-law, JoAnne Rustad, Ethel (Franklin) Mickelson, Linda (Gene) Martinson, Sandra (Arthur) Krueger; nephews and nieces, Michael Johansen, Debra Rustad, David Rustad, Rick Mickelson, Vincent Mickelson, Mike Krueger, Teri Loghry, Mitchell Kruger, Kristy Tjaden, Karrie Fouquette; cousins and special friends, Oscar “Junior” (Beatrice) Matson and Mark and Marcia Koefod.
Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday with a public prayer service at 6:30 at the funeral home. Visitation will resume one hour prior to the service at the church.
Service: 11 a.m. Wednesday at Our Saviors Ten Mile Lake Lutheran Church, Dalton, MN
