Ruby Thompson Whipple, 92, a resident of Fergus Falls, passed away on Tuesday, June 5, 2018, at Pioneer Memory Cottages under hospice care.
She was born on January 10, 1926 on a farm in Milaca, Minnesota to Henry Alfred and Anna (Nystrom) Thompson. Ruby graduated from Milaca in 1943 and went to work soon after in Minneapolis. She met her soon-to-be husband at the Memorial Day parade through a friend.
On October 28, 1944, Ruby married Floyd Whipple at Union Congregational Church in St. Louis Park, MN. Floyd’s employment took them to many locations including Detroit, Chicago, Fergus Falls, and West St. Paul. She worked in the sales tax division for the State of Minnesota until her retirement in 1988. After retiring, she moved back to Fergus Falls and split time between Minnesota and Texas.
Ruby is preceded in death by her husband, Floyd; parents, Henry and Anna Thompson; siblings, Adeline (Harvey) Fulwiler, Harold Orin (Marie) Thompson, Raymond Archibald (Betty) Thompson, Gordon Henry Thompson; and daughter-in-law, Helen Whipple.
Survivors include her children, Barbara (Wayne) Soliah of Cypress, TX, Alan Whipple of St. Paul, MN, Colin (Mai) Whipple of Montebello, CA, David (Vivian) Whipple of Fergus Falls, MN; grandchildren, James (Jennifer) Soliah of Cypress, TX, Jennifer (David) Babb of Spring, TX, Vanessa Whipple of Fergus Falls, MN, Joshua (Heather) Whipple of Erhard, MN, Gene Whipple of Cornucopia, WI; great-grandchildren, Caroline, Dylan, Garrett Babb of Spring, TX, Jordan and Jillian Soliah of Cypress, TX, Andrew Johnson of Fergus Falls, MN, Madelyn Whipple of Erhard, MN; sister-in-law, Janet Thompson of Osseo, MN; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorials are preferred to The Federated Church in Fergus Falls, and the American Red Cross.
Visitation: One hour prior to the service at the church
Memorial Service: 2 p.m. Friday, July 20, 2018, at The Federated Church, Fergus Falls, MN (If attending, we request you to wear blue to honor Ruby, as this was her favorite color.)
