Roquell Simmer

Roquell “Kell” Ben Simmer, 92, a resident of Fergus Falls, died Saturday, August 27, 2011 at Lake Region Hospital in Fergus Falls, Minnesota. He was born on April 9, 1919 in Wahpeton, North Dakota to Ben and Elizabeth (Wasmuth) Simmer. His father died when he was four months old. His mother later married Ernest Marquardt, living in the Rothsay area, where he grew up and attended school. On September 29, 1939 he married Florence Danielson at her home. Together they dairy and grain farmed in Akron Township of Wilkin County until he retired. In 1974 they moved to Rothsay. He became a resident of Mill Street of Fergus Falls in 2011. He was a member of the Rothsay Baptist Church, the Rothsay Senior Citizens and has served as a County Commissioner of Wilkin County. He enjoyed farming, fishing, deer hunting, cards and wintering in Texas and in Idaho. Preceding him in death were his parents, his wife Florence in 2002, a son Roger in 2011, and two sisters, LaVerne Danielson and one in infancy. He is survived by his children, Vernon (Joan) Simmer and Calvin “Butch” (Joan) Simmer all of Rothsay; five grandchildren: Joel (Connie) Simmer, Dawn (Lyle) Lelm, Julie (Jason) Carlson, Amy Simmer, and David (Laura) Simmer; ten great-grandchildren; one brother Russell (Evelyn) Marquardt of Rothsay; and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation: 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, August 31, 2011 at Olson Funeral Home with prayers at 6:30 p.m. Memorial Service: 11 a.m. Thursday, September 1, 2011 at the Rothsay Baptist Church in Rothsay Clergy: Reverend Leon Andersen Interment: Rothsay Baptist Cemetery, rural Rothsay Funeral Home: Olson Funeral Home, Fergus Falls
