Ronald Lee Ross

Ronald Lee Ross, 65, a resident of rural Dalton, died Thursday, December 28, 2017, at his home.

He was born on August 28, 1952, the son of Orville James and Mary Jane (Harris) Ross in Fergus Falls, MN. Ron was baptized and confirmed at First Lutheran Church in Fergus Falls. He attended McKinley Elementary and graduated from Fergus Falls Senior High School in 1970. When he returned from his military service, Ron attended Moorhead State, and the Fergus Falls Community College where he obtained his associates degree.

Ron joined the United States Army Signal Corps (USASC) in 1970. He served in Brussels, Belgium and Frankfort, Germany until 1973.

During high school and after serving in the military, Ron worked at the family owned business, the Fergus Bowling Center as well as Northern Aire Lanes. In college he worked for the Food Warehouse, and at Ottertail Grocery before he began carrying mail. For 36 years, Ron worked as a U.S. Rural Route Mail Carrier, most of it spent on “Route 4” as his license plate stated. He retired in November 2014.

He was a member of Adamson-Norman Post 30 in Fergus Falls, as well as First Lutheran Church in Fergus Falls.

Ron enjoyed the outdoors, growing up on the south shore of Silver Lake, swimming and water-skiing, as well as golfing, trivia, history, and visiting with family and friends. For 30 years he enjoyed the annual fishing trip to Frog Camp at Sioux Lookout in Ontario, Canada, where the fishing and friendships lasted until next year.

Preceding him in death were his parents and grandparents.

Survivors include his siblings, James K. (Thuoc) Ross of Carver, David A. (Mary) Ross of Champlin, Julie Ann (Scott) Soberg of Barrett, Michael J. (Cheryl) Ross of Buford, GA; as well as many nieces and nephews.


Visitation: 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, January 2, 2017, at Olson Funeral Home, Fergus Falls, with a 7 p.m. public prayer service
Clergy: Reverend Martha Halls
Military Participation: Fergus Falls V. F.W. Post 612 and American Legion Post 30
Interment: A private family burial will be at Knollwood Memorial Gardens, Fergus Falls
Arrangements are provided by the Olson Funeral Home in Fergus Falls
