Romuald “Romie” J. Kapphahn, 87, a resident of Fergus Falls, died Tuesday, February 11, 2014 at the Minnesota Veterans Home in Fergus Falls.
He was born to Fred and Clara (Korkowski) Kapphahn on October 30, 1926 in Leaf Valley Township in Douglas County, MN. He lived on the family farm until age 4, at which time Romie and his family moved to Millerville. During his youth, Romie spent a lot of time at his uncle Carl’s farm. He attended Brandon High School and graduated in 1943.
Romie entered the United States Army in February of 1945. He served in the 6th Army Division in the Pacific Theater until his discharge in December 1946.
On October 12, 1948 he married Adeline Schiele in Millerville at Our Lady of Seven Dolors. In 1950 the couple moved to Fergus Falls. Romie worked at Mid-Am Dairy as a steam engineer, Northwest Sash and Door and returned to Mid-Am Dairy, retiring in 1989. He also did carpentry work for Our Lady of Victory Church and for family and friends.
Romie was a member of Our Lady of Victory Church, Knights of Columbus, Catholic Order of Foresters and the V.F.W.
He loved his family, especially spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Romie enjoyed his carpentry work, traveling, gardening, bowling and fishing, especially ice fishing.
Preceding him in death were his parents; two sisters, Jeanette Betzold and Marcene Oldham; two brothers, Clifford Kapphahn and Ralph Kapphahn.
He is survived by his wife, of 65 years Adeline Kapphahan of Fergus Falls; children, Robert (Judy) Kapphahn of Minneapolis, Mary Jo (Michael) Kapphahn-Brough of Hamilton, MT, Ronald (Laurie) Kapphahn of Byron, CA, Kathy (Jim) Domholt of Fergus Falls, MN, Tim Kapphahn of Alexandria, MN, Ann (David) Knutson of Milnor, ND; 16 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; sister, Irma Huls; sister-in-law, Jane Kapphahn; also survived by numerous nieces and nephews and other relatives.

Visitation: 5-7 pm, Friday, February 14, 2014, Rosary by the Knights of Columbus at 6 pm with a 6:30 pm prayer service at Olson Funeral Home, also one hour prior to the service at the church
Mass of Christian Burial: 11 am, Saturday, February 15, 2014 at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church, Fergus Falls
