Roger Allen Stole, age 85, of Fergus Falls, MN, formerly of Halstad, MN, passed away Wednesday, September 12, 2018, at The Broen Memorial Home.
Roger Stole was born August 27, 1933 in Crookston, MN to Alfred and Mabel (Gilbertson) Stole. Roger attended Halstad High School, graduating in 1951. Roger then attended Interstate Business College in Fargo, ND. He served in the US Army and was stationed at Fort Holabird, Baltimore, Maryland. Roger worked as a carpenter in Halstad, MN until purchasing a local grocery store that became Stole’s Fairway. In 1973, Roger sold the grocery store and returned to carpentry until his retirement in 1995. Roger was active in civic duties serving as chief of the Halstad Volunteer Fire Department, co-chair of the steering committee that drove the development and construction of The Halstad Lutheran Memorial Home, on the local school board and church council and on many local volunteer committees.
Roger married Grace Svendsen on December 26, 1956, in Argyle, MN. They lived in Halstad, MN until 2009 when they moved to Fergus Falls, MN.
Roger is survived by his wife, Grace, Fergus Falls; son Paul (Joan) Stole, Eden Prairie, MN; daughters Karen (Jerry Magnison) Frigen, League City, TX; and Janet Freeman, Fergus Falls; three grandchildren Adam (Taylor Culley) Baker, Charleston, SC; Mark (Lacy) Stole, Houston, TX; Linnae Stole, St. Louis Park, MN two great-grandchildren, Emily and Parker Stole, Houston, TX; one brother, Marlan (Marge) Stole, Richfield, MN; one sister Janice (Wayne) Oak, Sandstone, MN; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
There will be a private family service at a future date.
