Roger D. Smith-DeLong, 51, a resident of Fergus Falls, died Saturday, October, 4, 2008 at the Golden Living Center on Otter Tail Lake. He was born on October 17, 1956 in Grand Rapids, Minnesota, the son of Donald and Hazel (Peters) Smith. He attended grade school in Donnelly, MN and high school in Morris and Herman. After high school, he served in the National Guard. He was employed by numerous farmers in the Wendell and Elbow Lake area. He was also employed as a welder at White Oak in Dalton. He resided in Fergus Falls and most recently was a resident of the Golden Living Center on Otter Tail Lake. Roger enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren, hunting, fishing, stock car racing, listening to country music and watching pro wrestling. Preceding him in death were his parents, son, Louis DeLong; step son, Zachary Jorgenson and brother, Jonathan DeLong. Survivors include his children, Lara (Neil) Schluter of Starbuck, Matthew DeLong, Benjamin DeLong, James DeLong, Joshua Gogolakis, Caleb Jorgenson all of Fergus Falls; 3 grandchildren, Collin and Brady Schluter and McKenzie DeLong; father, John DeLong of Morris; sibilings, Susan (Keary ) Toso of Fergus Falls, Donna (Jackie) Green of Florence, AL, Della (Dean) Johnson of Peoria, AZ, Nancy (Kenny) Derby of Fargo, ND, Janet (Neil) Seigel of Wheaton, Leila (Dean) Hormann of Starbuck, LuAnn (Paul) Jaeger of Fergus Falls, Dianne (Mark) Fladland of Sisseton, SD, Karen (Chris) Anderson of Wheaton, Teresa (Michael) Kruger of Morris, MN and Sarah DeLong of Waseca, MN. Also surviving are numerous nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles. Visitation: 3 to 5 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service.
