Roger John Nygaard, 63, of Moorhead, died Saturday, May 19, 2012, at Manor House in Moorhead, Minnesota. He was born July 3, 1948, in Alexandria, Minnesota, the son of Johnnie O. and Marjorie (Russell) Nygaard. His family lived in the Alexandria, Brandon, and Elbow Lake areas until eventually moving to the Fergus Falls area. Roger had challenging teen years and resided in the Owatonna and Red Wing area at group homes for several years. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1968 and served two tours in Vietnam, receiving a Vietnam campaign medal and Vietnam service medal. He also received two overseas bars and a national defense service medal while in the service. Roger attended Wadena Area Technical Institute for auto body technology. After graduation, he was employed at several businesses in the Fergus Falls/Pelican Rapids area. He worked as a truck driver for a local amusement attraction for a number of years before suffering heart problems and having to retire. He then moved to the Manor House in Moorhead where he resided until his death. Preceding him in death were his parents, a brother, Joseph Nygaard, and a brother-in-law, Arlen Grewe. Survivors include his four siblings: Marvin (Diane) Nygaard of Grand Rapids, MN, Clarice Grewe of Fergus Falls, Kenneth (Marilyn) Nygaard of Sioux Falls, SD, and Timothy Nygaard of Moose Lake, MN. Visitation: One hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
