Roger Allen Kube, 84, longtime resident of Wendell, and most recently of Fergus Falls, died Thursday, April 6, 2017, at his home in Fergus Falls under the care of LB Hospice surrounded by his loving family.
He was born August 29, 1932, in Lawrence Township to James Lewis and Ella Louise Ida (Rossow) Kube. He graduated from West Central School of Agriculture in Morris in 1949 and later attended the University of Minnesota.
On April 11, 1981, he married Jeanne Stenerson Carlson in Fergus Falls.
Roger farmed in Lawrence Township in Grant County, worked as a stock broker, real estate broker at the Kube Co. and as a painter in St. Paul and Wendell.
He was active in the Republican party and served on the Elbow Lake/Wendell School Board from 1960 to 1967. In 1967 he received the Outstanding Young Farmer Award. He belonged to the Elks, Lions, the Wendell Co-op Grain Elevator and was on its first board of directors. He was a charter member and president of the ACT’s (Answering the Call Together) and also served six years as the board president of the Pebble Lake Golf Course. Over the years, he was a member of the Lawrence Presbyterian Church, where he served as an Elder, Federated Church of Fergus Falls, the Randolph Heights Presbyterian Church of St. Paul, where he also served as an Elder.
In his spare time, he enjoyed being a 4-H club leader, and spent 8 to 10 years volunteering in Mississippi, Missouri, Louisiana, and Texas after hurricanes Katrina and Ike. He also enjoyed golfing, mowing lawns, and woodworking. Roger was known for making delicious “Sputniks” and his quick-witted humor.
Preceding him in death were his parents, James and Ella, a brother, Merlin Kube, a great-granddaughter, Emily Lynn Johnson, and step-daughter, Barbara Carlson Lowell.
Survivors include his wife, Jeanne Kube of Fergus Falls; his children, Dianne (Doug) Herman, Jeff Kube all of Fergus Falls, John (LaVon) Kube of Fargo, ND, Glenn Kube of Garrison and their mother Ruth Kube Karst of Fergus Falls, step-son Eric (Jenifer) Carlson of Albany; his sister, Jann Kruize of Wendell; grandchildren Lynn (Travis) Johnson of Fergus Falls, Darren (Heather) Herman of Underwood, Josh (Erica) Kube of Shoreview, Alex Kube of Fargo, Stephanie Dunbar of Rochester, and Sam and Julia Blackburn of Blackfoot, ID, Max Carlson of St. Paul, Joran Carlson of Albany, Sydney Jensen of Albany, Eli and Julia Barbieri of Grass Valley, CA.; great-grandchildren Carter and Sophie Herman of Fargo, Abigail Johnson of Fergus Falls, and Brooklyn and Madelyn Kube of Shoreview.
Memorials preferred to the Lake Region Healthcare Cancer Care and Research Center and or LB Hospice.
Visitation: 5-7 p.m. Sunday, April 9, 2017, with public prayer service at 6:30 p.m. at the Olson Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at the church
Memorial Service: 11 a.m. Monday, April 10, 2017, at Lawrence Presbyterian Church, 29926 310th Street, Wendell, Minnesota
