Roger D. Evavold, 83, a resident of Fergus Falls, died Wednesday, April 1, 2015, at his home, surrounded by his family.
He was born on August 5, 1931, in Fergus Falls, the son of Roy and Mildred (Helleckson) Evavold. He attended District 64 country school and continued on to West Central Ag School in Morris.
On June 21, 1952, he was united in marriage to Beverly Schempp at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Fergus Falls. Roger joined the United States Army, as an instructor for heavy equipment, and the newlyweds moved to Fort Leonard Wood, MO. Roger was discharged in June of 1954, and they returned to Fergus, where he resumed his work with his father, Roy, at Evavold Construction. In the early 1960’s he became a partner, working hard, and retiring in 1998.
Roger enjoyed golfing, hunting, woodworking, and working on projects around the house. Roger and Bev also enjoyed many winter in Mesa, Arizona.
He was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Fergus Falls American Legion, Associated General Contractors “AGC”, the Pebble Lake Golf Club, and the Fergus Falls Elks Club.
Preceded in death by his parents; and a grandson, Nathan Evavold.
Roger is survived by his wife, Beverly of Fergus Falls; three sons, Wayne (Kay) Evavold of Fergus Falls, Daryl (Amy) Evavold of Fergus Falls and Darin (Dede) Evavold of St. Cloud; 11 grandchildren, Kristopher (Carol) Evavold, Daniel (Tami) Evavold, Heather (Curtis) Sandahl, Dallas (Genevieve) Rostad, Nicole Rostad, Laura (Kevin) Broder, Maggie (Luke Neuville) Evavold, Adam (Kelsey) Evavold, Carrie Evavold, Lucas Evavold, Rachel Evavold; seven great-grandchildren; brother, Gaylan Evavold of rural Elbow Lake; three sisters, Donna Sonmor of Fergus Falls, Audrey (Rodney) Pletan of Forest Lake and Carolyn (Ronald) Nelson of Rochester. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorials preferred to Lake Region Cancer Care and Research Center in Fergus Falls.
Visitation: 4-7 p.m. Friday, April 3, 2015 with a 5 p.m. prayer service at Olson Funeral Home in Fergus Falls. Visitation will resume one hour prior to the service at the church.
Service: 11 a.m. Saturday, April 4, 2015, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Fergus Falls.
