Robert Tackett

Robert Tackett, 73, of Fergus Falls, died Wednesday, August 2, 2023 at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, ND.

Robert was born May 20, 1950, to Dallas and Mary (DeWitt) Tackett in Pike County, Ohio, where he lived with his family until the age of 13. He and his family then moved to Moose Lake, MN. He graduated from Moose Lake High and was drafted into the United States Army. He spent his tour of duty in Alaska.

A few years later he moved to Elbow Lake where he met and married Barbara Dillon (who loved horses) on September 22, 1978, in Moorhead. They lived on a small farm and that is where his love of horses started. Trail rides, saddle club, riding with friends – he loved it all. He was the love of her life (but he sure knew how to make her mad). LOL They raised two daughters on the farm who also loved all the animals. One of his favorite pastimes was visiting with family and friends. He found Morrell mushrooms in Ohio and was thrilled to find out that they grew in Minnesota also. He spent many hours looking for them and then recruiting anyone he could, to go with him.

His friend Rick got him into goose hunting which he loved. When his grandsons were old enough, he got them into it. Every year he would say, “this is going to be my last year. I’m getting too old to do this walking.” He was already talking about the season coming. Last, but not least, he loved our trips to the casino and playing bingo.

Over the years, Robert had many jobs as a truck driver but was happiest when he drove for three different cab companies. He loved visiting with customers. His last job was working part-time for the Otter Express.

We miss him already and will always miss him. We Love You! 45 years weren’t enough. I wanted more.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Dallas and Mary Tackett; grandparents, Vessie and Ada DeWitt.

Robert is survived by his wife, Barbara Tackett; children, Brenda Tackett, Lisa Robinson, Brent Tackett and Damon Tackett; grandchildren, Dylan Tackett, Chase Stundahl, Dawson Stundahl and Colton Robinson; siblings, Jerry Tackett of Dayton, OH, Nancy Hawk of Springfield, OH and Linda Walter of Barnum; half-brothers and sisters, Tom, Steven, Robin and Joyce Stanfield; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Memorial Service: 11:00 a.m., Friday, August 11, 2023, at the Olson Funeral Home in Fergus Falls with visitation one-hour prior to the service.
