Robert “Bob” Duane Steiner, 79, a resident of Rothsay, died Monday, August 30, 2010, at his home. He was born November 8, 1930, in Fergus Falls, Minnesota, the son of Charles and Alma (Wallin) Steiner of Andrea Township, rural Foxhome. He was baptized and confirmed at Hamar Lutheran Church in Rothsay. Bob attended country school, District #24, in Akron Township and the Morris Ag School. In 1952 Bob was drafted into the Marine Corps. He achieved the rank of PFC during the Korean War, receiving his basic training in San Diego, CA, and then serving as an MP in Hawaii and Japan until his discharge in 1954. On May 9, 1952, he and Dorothy Murphy were married at the Foxhome Lutheran Church. Bob spent his life farming, first with his father, uncle Albert, and cousin Jim, then with his brother, Daryl (and family), which included dairy farming until 1962, and sugar beets starting in 1967. In 1981 Bob focused on farming with his sons, Jerry and Jeff. He was a member of Foxhome Lutheran Church where he served on the Church Council, served on the Akron Township Board as a supervisor, and was a member of the Rothsay American Legion and the Fergus Falls Eagles Club. Bob enjoyed motorcycling, caring for his livestock and other animals, loved “good” music and dancing, and relaxing at Deer Lake. His more recent pastimes were spending time on the farm and visiting with friends at the Rothsay Truck Stop, “Mobil”. Preceding him in death were his parents; two brothers, Daryl, and Calvin (as a toddler); his sister, Alda Mae Anderson; and his grandson, David Gerald Steiner. Survivors include his children: Gerald Robert (Kathy) Steiner and Jeffrey Dennis (Joanne) Steiner, both of Rothsay, Jennifer Jo (Jim) Wznick of Cavalier, ND, Jacquelyn Dee (Bill) Mattson of Casselton, ND, Jill Noelle Steiner of Watertown, SD, and Jay Darrin (Nickole) Steiner of Lisbon, ND; 17 grandchildren: Robert L. Steiner, Kristie (Craig) Sullivan, Wade, Taylor, Ashley and Emily Steiner, Tanner, Afton, Alyx, Rylee and Brynn Wznick, Blair, Paige and Saydee Mattson, and Carly, Morgan and Jacob Steiner; two great-grandchildren: Savannah and Vanessa Sullivan; and his paternal first cousin, Lorraine Ostlund, and maternal first cousins, Gordon, Donald and Bernice Wallin.
