Robert Maas

Robert Joseph Maas, age 80, of Fergus Falls, died Friday, February 13, 2009 at his home in Fergus Falls under the care of Lakeland Hospice. He was born on April 29, 1928 in St. Bonifacius, the oldest child of Louis and Lorraine (Schuler) Maas. He grew up in St Bonifacius, Minnesota and served in the Merchant Marines during WWII. On December 6, 1949 he married Rose Marie Kelzer and they made their home in St. Bonifacius. They later lived in Fergus Falls (1960-62), Hopkins (1962-75), Remer (1975-94) and back to Fergus Falls in 1994. Bob worked for National Tea Food Stores as a truck driver and for Quadna Mountain Ski Resort as the head of outdoor maintenance. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. His time living on Graves Lake in Remer, Minnesota was very special. Bob loved his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He was a member of the American Legion, Knights of Columbus and the VFW. He was a member of Our Lady of Victory Parish where he did volunteer work for many years. Preceding him in death were his wife, Rose, his parents as well as a sibling LaVonne Maas O.S.B. Survivors include his daughter, Sandy (Mike) Carpenter of Fergus Falls, his son Steve (Terrie) Maas of Maple Grove, his daughter Sharon (Mike) Mulvaney of Elk River, seven grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, a brother, Leon (Carol) Maas of St. Bonifacius, sisters; Eileen (John) Nalevanko of Cold Spring, Diane (Fred) Segner of St. Bonifacius, Marilyn Hilgers of Waconia, Arlys (Don) Knopick of Crystal, Bonnie (Don) Moonen of St. Bonifacius and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation: Monday from 5-7 p.m. at the Olson Funeral Home with a public prayer service at 6:30 p.m. Services: 11:30 a.m. Tuesday Feb 17, at the Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church in Fergus Falls Clergy:  Fathers LeRoy Schik & Greg Paffel Interment: St. Otto’s Cemetery – Fergus Falls, with Military participation by the Fergus Falls VFW Post.
