Robert Junior Carrison

Robert Junior Carrison, age 86, of Fergus Falls, died on Saturday, December 12, 2015, at Lake Region Hospital in Fergus Falls.

Robert was born on December 20, 1928, in Doran, MN, to Robert Leslie and Martha Inga (Moe) Carrison. He attended school near Wendell and later the family moved to Fergus Falls, where he completed his education. Robert graduated high school with his GED several years later.

Robert joined the United States Army Air Corps in 1946 and was stationed in Mississippi, Alaska, Germany, Japan, Korea, Langlie Field in Virginia and several other bases. In the service, he was a co-pilot navigator, mechanic, flight engineer, crew chief, and instructor, and retired as a Master Sergeant in 1966. In 1953, he married Dorothy Smiddy in Biloxi, Mississippi. After his retirement in 1966, he lived in Chelmsford, MA, and owned and operated a full-service gas station and used car lot, Carrison’s Fuel Stop in Billerica, MA. He continued his love of flying and became an instrument rated private pilot and fulfilled his dream, of owning his own plane. He continued to work as a civilian mechanic at the Hanscom Aero Club, on Hanscom A.F.B. Robert was committed to supporting The Boy Scouts of America from behind the scenes all the way to serving as Scoutmaster for Troop 8 in Chelmsford, MA.

In March of 1990, he married Mary Rose Berry in Chelmsford, MA. In 1991, he returned to Fergus Falls, where he did various volunteer jobs in the area, especially with the DAV and VFW.

Robert was a member of the Hanscomb Aero Club, Masonic Lodge, Lion’s, Rotary, Elk’s Club and the Fergus Falls American Legion. He enjoyed golf, fishing, hunting, cooking, picking choke cherries, gardening and flying. He also liked playing bingo, bowling, watching the MN Twins which he was a die-hard fan, music, motorcycles, dancing and roller skating. He loved spending time with his brother, Charles Carrison of Underwood, MN, and was always in comfort of his four legged friends. Robert especially loved spending time with his kids and grandkids and following them in their numerous activities.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Martha Carrison; his brothers, Dale, Darrell, Frank and Charles; and a sister, Muriel.

Robert is survived by his children, Ken (Cindy) Carrison of Situate, MA, Robert (Pamela) Carrison of East Sandwich, MA, Harold (Debbie) Carrison of Pleasanton, CA, Chris Carrison of Pelham, NH, Beth (Jake) van der Heide of Chelmsford, MA, Celeste (Ben) Schultz of Fergus Falls, MN, Nicole (CJ) Woods of Woodbury, MN, Dale Carrison of Fergus Falls, MN, and Jonathan (Mindy) Berry of Fergus Falls, MN; his grandchildren, Mark (Elizabeth) Carrison, Michael (Lisa) Carrison, Jennie (Stephen) Webb, Matthew Carrison, Dever Carrison, Michelle (Todd) Pelham, Ken (Victoria) Carrison, Dana Shea, David van der Heide, Joey Shea, Nathalie and Noah Schultz, Brandon Berry, Brianna, Amanda, David, Collan, and Jayden; his great-grandchildren, Caiden and Trevor; and his sisters, Donna Bellinger, Sylvia Dodson, Beverly Carrison, Rita (Lewis) Berge, Marti (Joe) Fuccy and Lois Appelgate.
