Rita Susan Hoglund, 65, a resident of Fergus Falls, died Monday, March 14, 2011, at her residence in Fergus Falls. She was born December 13, 1945, in Prince George’s Co., Maryland, the daughter of Elmer F. and Rita R. (Schwalen) Hoglund. She lived with her parents and sisters in College Park until she was seven years old when she entered the Van Hook School in New Castle, Delaware. When she was 12 years old, she was placed at St. Mary’s School in Shreveport, Louisiana. She was brought to the Fergus Falls Regional Treatment Center in 1971 where she lived until she entered a group home. She had been employed at Motel 7 and Mr. C’s (formerly Mr. Steak) and by Productive Alternatives in Fergus Falls, and at a children’s daycare center in Elizabeth. She was preceded in death by her mother and father. Survivors include two sisters, Helen Hoglund (Bob Roulston) of Murray, Kentucky, and Ruth Hoglund of Hercules, California; her cousins; and her housemates, Cindy, Cheryl and Vanessa. Rita greeted the world with her smiles and gentle spirit which were returned so lovingly by all who knew her. “Susie” was very fortunate to live in such an open and compassionate community that gave her the opportunity to be herself. A graveside service is being planned for mid May 2011 at Oak Grove Cemetery in Fergus Falls.
