Richard S. Leitch

July 26, 1930 — December 30, 2013

Richard S. Leitch, 83, a resident of Battle Lake, died Monday, December 30, 2013, at the Battle Lake Good Samaritan Center.

He was born to Stanley and Thelma (Sletner) Leitch on July 26, 1930 in Fergus Falls, Minnesota. He was baptized August 18, 1979. Richard attended elementary school at the Leitch School House in Underwood, Minnesota.

In 1947 Richard joined the United States Air Force, serving for three years mainly in Japan. While in the service, he received his GED. He liked to talk about Iwo Jima and walking through the caves. He was honorably discharged in 1950 at the rank of a Corporal. He worked for Mark Sand and Gravel for about 22 years, as a truck driver, retiring in 1994.

Richard was a member of the American Legion, VFW and Seventh Day Adventist Church. In his younger days, he like to ice fish, go deer hunting and he loved to travel by car. He took many trips to Idaho and Washington. Richard also loved to watch TV and to go to church.

Preceding him in death was his parents, Thelma and Stanley, son, Robert Leitch, step-father, George Hedalen and brother, Allen Richard

He is survived by his wife Sharon of Battle Lake; children: Cindy (Gary) Flerchinger of Clitherall, Rick (Cheryl) Leitch of Battle Lake, Darla Helseth of Underwood, ND; grandchildren: Tyler Leitch, Samantha Foell, Angie (Tim) Kugler, Shari (Joe) Kantrud, Shane (Deanna) Kugler, Travis (Anna) Flerchinger, Jerry (Amy) Flerchinger, Sherry (Travis) Vaughn, Perry (Chrystal) Flerchinger, Brandon Chase, Levi Chase; great-grandchildren: Jacob Leitch, Kamron Leitch, Quinn Leitch, Jacob Reynolds, Lydia Reynolds, Madison Reynolds, Jasmine Kugler, Evan Kugler, Tucker Kugler, Hunter Kugler, Emma Flerchinger, Zachary Flerchinger, Emily Vaughn, Michael Vaughn, Rachel Flerchinger, Andrew Flerchinger, and Jordan Flerchinger; siblings: Betty McDaniel of Aberdeen, Washington, Sandra Valentinsen, David Leitch both of McKenna, Washington and Mervin (Renee) Leitch of Lake Stevens, Washington. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews.


Visitation: One hour prior to the service at the church
Service: 11 am Saturday at Seventh Day Adventist, Fergus Falls
Clergy: Pastors Fred Crowell and Perry Flerchinger
Interment: Rindal Cemetery, rural Underwood
Funeral Home: Olson Funeral Home, Fergus Falls
