Richard "Dick" Anderson

Richard “Dick” Anderson, 80, a resident of Underwood, died Wednesday December 2, 2015, at Lake Region Healthcare of Fergus Falls.

Dick was born on June 18, 1935, in Worthington, MN, the son of Gilbert and Elvera (Langseth) Anderson. He was baptized and confirmed at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Circle Pines, MN. In 1947, the family moved to Lake George, MN and this is when Dick’s love for the outdoors began. He loved traveling through the forests and fields and also hunting and fishing. He attended high school in LaPorte, MN and when he was in the 10th grade left school to work in the woods, driving Log Trucks and Caterpillars.

On April 7, 1956, he married the love of his life, Charlotte Ruth Franks at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Park Rapids, MN. As a married couple, they lived in Hibbing and the Twin Cities and then moved to Fergus Falls, where he worked in the construction business. In 1979, he was hired fulltime by the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources, to coordinate the Advanced Hunter Education Program. He retired from the DNR in 2000.

He was the recipient of several distinguished awards including, the Conservationist of the Year by the Minnesota Waterfowl Association for Professionals in 1987, Advanced Hunter Education award in 1990, The Randy Olson Memorial Award and also the Minnesota Waterfowl Association Hall of Fame Award in 2014.

Dick loved the competitive world and was successful in track, baseball, archery and shooting. He held state titles in baseball, archery and placed at the state and national shooting sports competition. He also was President of the Minnesota State Archery Association and served for 2 years as President of the Little League baseball organization in the metro area. He was also a previous longtime member at Trinity Lutheran Church in Fergus Falls and currently a member at Tordenskjold Free Lutheran church in rural Underwood.

Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife, Charlotte, who died in 2011; two brothers, John and Donald Anderson; and two brothers-in-law, LaVere James and Allan Pearson.

Survivors include his children, Dawn Anderson (Kevin Snow) of Jamestown, ND, Mitch (Carolyn) Anderson, Tammy (Mike) Hoff, Joe (Joyce) Anderson all of Fergus Falls; grandchildren, Heather Eggen (Lathan Orke), Brent (Lindsie) Eggen, Ashley Maragos (Barron Curtis), David (Jenny) Johnson, Aaron (Andrea) Johnson, Chris (Ashley) Hoff, Kendell (Nate) Gray, Taran Hoff, Cody and Kyle Anderson; great-grandchildren, Keagan Maragos, Kylee Eggen, Ally and Becca Johnson, Tate Hoff, Nadia, Brody and Harper Gray; brother, Reverend David Anderson of Dubuque, IA; sisters, Vera (Jim) Bauman of Willson Creek, WA and Ann Schiller of Wyoming, MN; sisters-in-law, LaMae James, Virginia (Bill) Guegel and Beverly Pearson, all of Park Rapids. Also surviving are numerous nieces, nephews and a host of wonderful friends.

Visitation: One hour prior to the service at the church.
Memorial Service: 11 a.m. Saturday, December 5, 2015 at Tordenskjold Free Lutheran church, rural Underwood.
Clergy: Pastor Mark Johnson
Burial: A private family burial will take place at a later date at Trinity-Faith Cemetery in Fergus Falls.
