Reid Neuman

August 17, 1971 — October 26, 2011

Reid Neuman, 40, a resident of Ottertail, died Wednesday, October 26, 2011 at his home. Reid Jason Neuman was born August 17, 1971, in Willmar, Minnesota, the son of Mary (Rude) and James Neuman. His pre-school years were spent in Raymond and Fergus Falls where he had his first school experience at Claire Ann Shover Nursery School. He was baptized at St. Johns Lutheran Church in Raymond, and confirmed by Pastor Wayne Radke at United Redeemer Lutheran Church in Zumbrota. He started Kindergarten in Zumbrota and graduated with honors with the Class of 1990 from Zumbrota-Mazeppa High School. While in high school (7-12) he was active in football, basketball, golf, concert and marching band (saxaphone), and just about every school play that was offered. Reid was involved in Luther League including his favorite experiences in the Boundary Waters. He loved to hunt and fish and especially scuba dive. He spent his 40 summers at the place he called “his real home” Otter Tail Lake. After high school he attended Bemidji State University for two years, again participating in two theatre productions per year. In the summer of 1992 he began working at Oakwood Golf Course in Henning, and hence transferred to the University of Minnesota-Crookston, and graduated (Cum Laude) in June of 1994 with a Bachelors Degree in Agronomy. He worked at Oakwood as Course Superintendent for the next 15 years, and spent the last three years at Balmoral Golf Course on Otter Tail Lake, with the last two years as Co-superintendent of Grounds. Reid is survived by his Mother and Dad, Mary and Jim Neuman of Otter Tail Lake; his brothers: Kirk (Brenda) Neuman of Faribault, MN, and Judd (special friend Denise Buness) of Panama City Beach, FL; his aunt and uncle, Connie and Vern Vallevand of Fergus Falls; his nephew, Dakota Neuman of Faribault; and cousins Mark (Debbie) Vallevand and Mike Vallevand. He was preceded in death by his grandparents: C. Russell and Eunice Neuman, and Alvin and Amanda Rude, as well as his uncles: N. Dale Rude and Vern Rude. Reid was a special man with much compassion and friendship for his fellow beings. May God rest Reid’s soul. We will have his memory forever. A Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, November 4, 2011, at Calvary Lutheran Church in Perham, with Reverend Phil Holtan officiating. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Thursday at the church, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, and resumes one hour prior to the service at the church.
