Ramona (Mrs. Howard) M. Hoff, 98, a resident of Fergus Falls, died Thursday, May 5, 2011, at the Broen Memorial Home in Fergus Falls. She was born May 12, 1912, at home in rural Fergus Falls, Minnesota, the daughter of William and Freda (Auseth) Mavis. She grew up and attended country school in Aastad Township. On March 31, 1936, she and Howard Hoff were married at her parent’s home in Aastad Township. For 2 ½ years they worked for Howard’s uncle, Clarence Hoff. In 1943 they purchased a farm in Aastad Township, farming there until retirement in 1979. They continued to reside on the farm until 1991 when they moved to Alexandria, returning to Fergus Falls in 1994. In addition to assisting with the farming operation, Ramona also did custom baking of cakes and other goodies, and worked for a brief time at Rosenblatts in Fergus Falls. Ramona was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Fergus Falls, where she participated in the ELCW and Circle. She enjoyed gardening, doing field work, and many other outdoor activities. Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Howard in 1996; her daughter, Rosalie Johnson in 2000; and three siblings: Walter and Wilmer Mavis, and Vivian Hoff. Survivors include a brother, Lawrence (Leanna) Mavis of Fergus Falls; a son-in-law, Norman Johnson of Fergus Falls; and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation: 5-7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, and resumes one hour prior to the service at the Broen Home Service: 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 7, 2011, at the Light and Life Auditorium of the Broen Memorial Home in Fergus Falls.
