Ralph Carter passed away peacefully at his family home in Battle Lake MN on Saturday, Jan 21, 2023. In the days immediately before his passing he was able to hold hands and reminisce with his family; including his wife Sherry, his two sons and their families including 4 grandchildren, along with his two brothers and their spouses.
Ralph graduated from Ravanna High School in Missouri. The schoolhouse he attended included first through twelfth grades. When Ralph was a senior, his younger brothers also attended the same school at which time Wayne was in tenth, and Dale was in fifth grade. Following high school Ralph enrolled in the Navy.
He served honorably as an engine mechanic in the US Navy from January 3, 1967, to September 6, 1972; during which he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal. Upon honorable discharge from the Navy he soon met his future wife.
After two months of dating Ralph married the love of his life Sherry Nygaard in Fergus Falls on February 17, 1973. It would’ve been their fiftieth wedding anniversary this coming February.
He worked in the industrial products, and aerospace and defense industry as a foundry worker. He was at Hitchcock Industries for forty years where he made aluminum castings for airplane parts; including winglets for Boeing.
Ralph was a gentle soul with a big heart. He would help anybody anytime. From borrowing tools to family, neighbors, and friends, to helping family members move, fixing cars, or pulling random people’s cars out of a snow filled ditch. He would give you the shirt off his back.
He loved tractors, the outdoors, "puttsing" in the garage or shed, snowmobiling, and spending time with his family and grandkids.
Preceding him in death were his parents Ralph and Millie (Hormel) Carter.
Ralph is survived by his wife Sherry; sons Jason (Sara) Carter, Shawn (Nick) Carter; and his grandchildren Magdalen, Grant, Elsie, Kate; his brothers Wayne and Dale along with their families.
Memorial Service: 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 11, 2023, with a light lunch immediately following at Constance Free Lutheran Church 16150 Crosstown Blvd NW, Andover, MN 55304

One of Ralph’s favorite items of clothing was a pearl snap button down western shirt. Some of the family members will be wearing western shirts in remembrance of him. None are expected to, but all should feel free to participate as they wish.
