Prentice Howard “Bud” Ness, 92, died Monday, August 16, 2010, at the PioneerCare Center in Fergus Falls. Prentice Howard Ness, known to most of you as “Bud” was born March 20, 1918, in Fergus Falls, Minnesota, to his proud parents Daniel and Anne (Otteson) Ness. He grew up in the Fergus Falls area where he attended school. Bud served with the U.S. Army during World War II, serving in campaigns in the Pacific Theater including the Aleutian Islands and Okinawa. For a short time Bud lived in the San Francisco Bay area. He later returned to Fergus Falls where he married Emma Nelkorn. He worked for Otter Tail Power Company, including working in Canby, MN, for several years before returning to Fergus Falls. At the time of his retirement he was a hydro electric operator. Following retirement he remained in Fergus Falls. He was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, the Masonic Lodge and Shriners, the Elks, American Legion, VFW and the NRA. Bud enjoyed gardening and raising flowers. His passion was hunting and fishing, cherishing his trips to the Manatues in Canada with his lifelong friends. When they weren’t fishing they were enjoying oyster stew and time at Doc Carson’s and lutefisk feeds in the fall. He had a wonderful life of adventure with many friends and family leaving a legacy of hunting, fishing, and the outdoors. Preceding him in death were his parents, his wife, Emma, of 36 years, his daughter, Nancy Carol Ness, two sisters, Judy McClaughlin and Della Rudd, his brother, Jerry Ness, and his companion, Ann Hartman. Survivors include his son, Daniel of Prescott Valley, AZ, two grandchildren, Nikolaus Ness and Jessica (Shane) Kennedy, his former daughter-in-law, LaRayne, of Forks, WA, his aunt, Bertha “Tootles” Otteson of Fargo, ND, and nieces and nephews.
