Phyllis was born in Laurens, Iowa on July 6, 1927 to R.E. and Stella (Good) Barger. She graduated from high school in 1946. On August 25, 1946, she was united in marriage to Howard Vial and together they raised five children on a farm south of Laurens. Howard and Phyllis celebrated 50 years of marriage.

Phyllis liked traveling in the RV, reading, listening to music, canning produce from her garden, making greeting cards, and spending time with her family. She was an excellent seamstress. Phyllis also enjoyed watching Iowa Hawkeyes basketball and her favorite player Kareem Abdul-Jabbar of the Los Angeles Lakers. As a young child, she spent much time in Missouri with her grandparents, Gramma Good and Joe-Dad and loved relating these stories to her children. We all feel so blessed to have shared our lives with Phyllis and will miss her, but feel great comfort in all the cherished memories she helped to create.

A celebration of Phyllis’ life will be held in the spring in Laurens, Iowa.
