Patrick Oakes

Patrick S. Oakes, 50, of Sherman Oakes, CA formerly Fergus Falls, died Friday, August 19, 2022, at his residence.

Patrick Steven was born on March 6, 1972 to Steven B. And Carol A. (Ronningen) Olson at St. Ansgar’s Hospital in Moorhead MN. He was baptized and confirmed at the Lutheran Church of Christ the King and graduated from Moorhead High in 1990 and from Columbia College in Chicago, IL majoring in Film.

Patrick legally changed his last name from Olson to Oakes, which was his paternal grandmother’s maiden name.

Patrick moved to the Los Angeles area where he met Vanessa Vieira of Belo Horizante, Brazil. They were married in Honolulu, Hawaii on November 23, 2001. They have 2 children Ann Sophie (20) and Oliver Steven (12).

Although his intent was to make a career in film (he did release one movie), he formed his own company in the tax field and this turned out to be a successful venture. Although Patrick wouldn’t openly display it, he was a kind and generous person. He loved learning and continued taking on line courses.

Pat and his family enjoyed their many travels which included Brazil, Europe, and
Mexico. He also enjoyed the sport of boxing. His workout routine included sparring. He was proud of the gym he had built that, besides workout equipment, included a regulation size boxing ring.

Patrick is survived by his wife Vanessa and their children Sophie and Oliver; mother, Carol Olson of Fergus Falls, MN; sister, Paula Davis of Austin, TX and her children Alex of Cambridge MA, Jack of Austin TX, and Grayson of West Point Military Academy in NY; brother, Preston (Elizabeth) Olson and their son Zephyr of So. Orange, NJ; mother-in-law, Vilma Farias Vieira; father-in-law, Valter Vieira and brother-in-law, Valter Vieira Jr. of Brazil. He is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

Patrick was preceded in death by his father Steven B. Olson, grandparents, Irene and Elmer Ronningen, Kathleen (Francis) Boreen, Brune Snartland and step-grandfather Orville Olson.

Memorial Service: 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 16, 2022 at Olson Funeral Home in Fergus Falls, with visitation one-hour prior to the service.
Interment: South Immanuel Cemetery, rural Rothsay, MN
