Palma Martin

Palma Odessa Martin, 93, a resident of Fergus Falls, died Sunday, April 12, 2009, at the Pioneer Retirement Community in Fergus Falls. She was born May 9, 1915, in Elbow Lake, Minnesota, the daughter of Ole O. and Betsey (Johnson) Sletten.   She attended country school near Elbow Lake. On November 23, 1932, she married Herman Peters at Elk Point, South Dakota. They moved to Chicago in 1937 where she worked as a switchboard operator. She moved to California in November of 1956. On September 12, 1959 she married Francis Martin in Van Nuys, California.   She was a homemaker and loved to babysit. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Fergus Falls. Palma loved babysitting, needlepoint, cooking, Bingo, trivia at the Pioneer Home, and listening to classical and opera music. She was a wonderful seamstress and loved making beautiful dresses for all her granddaughters. Preceding her in death were her mother, Betsey (Sletten) Cavalier and her father, Ole Sletten; a sister, Thora Eide; all four of her children: Royce, Richard, and Raoul Peters, and Barbara Chisholm; two grandchildren, Bonnie (Powell) Zachery, and Bobby Powell; and her husbands, Herman Peters and Francis Martin. She is survived by 15 grandchildren: Linda, Brenda, Rhonda, Glenda, Colette, Carolyn, Claudette, Glenna, Todd, Betsy, Barry, Jackie, Amy, Kim and Doug; many great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; and two siblings, Orvin (ViVian) Sletten of Salem, OR, and Levine (Don) Mattson of Menominee, MI.
