Otto Olson

Otto James Olson, 79, a resident of Fergus Falls, died Sunday, June 10, 2007 at the Lake Region Hospital in Fergus Falls. He was born April 14, 1928, in Maplewood Township, near Pelican Rapids, the son of Otto and Effie (Aaberg) Olson. He grew up there until his family moved to Fergus Falls in 1943. On June 25, 1949, he married Muriel Foshaug in Dalton. Together they raised two daughters, and made their home in Fergus Falls for 58 years. Otto was a livestock buyer for John Morrell Company. He retired from John Morrell 16 years ago. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church for 58 years, and was also a longtime member and officer of the Elks. Otto was an avid hunter and fisherman, taking trips to Canada and northern Minnesota. He was also a pilot, owning his own plane. He enjoyed giving airplane rides to people and especially to his grandchildren. One of the highlights of his life after he retired was when he and his flying buddies flew their planes to Alaska. Preceding him in death were his parents; three sisters: Olga, Gladys, and Eunice; and one brother, Weldon. Survivors include his wife, Muriel of Fergus Falls; two daughters: Pamela (Jim) Wolters of Fargo, and Nancy Bordson of Minneapolis; five grandchildren: Ryan (Marisa) Wolters, Ben (Erin) Wolters, and Sarah Wolters, all of Fargo, ND, and Nick Henkes and Molly Henkes of Minneapolis; three great-grandchildren; three sisters: Bette Friedrich of Inver Grove Heights, Ruth Bjorgo of Fergus Falls, and Elda Huffman of Arizona; one brother, Mandy Olson of Arizona, and many nieces and nephews. Visitation: 5-7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with a 6:30 p.m. prayer service, and one hour prior to the service at the church.
