Orvin Christianson

October 20, 1922 — January 28, 2009

Orvin N. Christianson, 86, a resident of Fergus Falls, died Wednesday, January 28, 2009, at the Broen Memorial Home in Fergus Falls.  Orvin was born on October 20, 1922 in Osage, MN, the son of Ludvig and Hannah (Thorson) Christianson. He grew up in Osage and attended country school. He also attended Detroit Lakes Technical School for welding and then began working at a defense plant in Michigan City, Indiana. While working there, Orvin was drafted in the United States Army and served in various countries in Europe during World War II. He was injured at Battle of the Bulge and was awarded the Purple Heart. He was also awarded medals for his marksmanship. On June 28, 1958, he married Mae Kratzke at St. Paul’s Loon Lake Lutheran Church near Vergas. During the years, Orvin worked at various jobs, including foreman at West Central Turkey Plant and head custodian at the Fergus Falls Community College. He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Fergus Falls. As a young man he was a member of St. Paul’s Loon Lake Lutheran Church, serving on the finance committee. He was also a member of the Pelican Rapids V. F. W. and Fergus Falls Kiwanis. Orvin enjoyed tinkering around the house and inventing things. He also enjoyed deer hunting, fishing and walking his dog, Goldie. Preceding him in death were his parents; two brothers, Morris and Alden and one sister, Ruth. Survivors include his wife, Mae of Fergus Falls; son, Len (Cathy) Christianson of Fergus Falls, two grandchildren, Sara and Kayla Christianson of Fergus Falls; sister, Stella Dormanan of Frazee and one brother, Kennard (Betty Ann) Christianson of Great Falls, MT. Also surviving are numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Visitation:  One hour prior to the service at the church Service:  1 p.m. Monday at Faith Lutheran Church, Fergus Falls Clergy:  Reverend Craig Palach Burial:  St. Paul’s Loon Lake Lutheran Cemetery, rural Vergas Military Participation:    Pelican Rapids V.
