Orval Milo Larson, 89, of Fergus Falls and formerly of Battle Lake, died Monday, December 16, 2013, at Lake Region Healthcare in Fergus Falls, Minnesota.
He was born March 30, 1924, in Sverdrup Township, near Underwood, Minnesota, the son of Martin N. and Minnie (Lofthus) Larson. He attended country school in Clitherall Township.
On September 4, 1948, he married Barbara Jean Molter at the Methodist Church in Dent, Minnesota. They farmed west of Battle Lake in Clitherall and Everts Townships until moving to Fergus Falls in 1949. Orval and his family and friends built a home near Battle Lake, moving there in 1962. He worked at the National T Packing Plant, also serving as a labor union representative. In 1975 he began working for Dieseth Construction, and was employed there for 12 years until his retirement in 1987.
He was a member of Sverdrup Lutheran Church of Underwood, and former member of Grace United Methodist Church in Fergus Falls and First Lutheran Church in Battle Lake.
In his younger years he enjoyed bowling, dancing, card playing, deer hunting, spear fishing in the winter, and woodworking, including building their home. He was proud to have traveled to 49 of the 50 states.
Preceding him in death were parents; his wife, Barbara, in 1992; a grandson, Kai; and three sisters, Alice Mae Wegner, Lorraine Kane, and Maxine Keeping.
Survivors include two sons: Greg (Bonnie) Larson of Erhard, and Doug (Tammy) Larson of Roy UT; two daughters: Marsha (Ron) Bowman of Ashby, and Nancy (Joe) Papa of Albertville MN; seven grandchildren: Sean Greeney, Heather (Randy) Bitzan, Becky (Tim) Ferguson, Katie (Taylor) Kapphahn, Brett Bowman, Ryan (Cassandra) Papa, and Nicole (Henry) Martin; 11 great-grandchildren: Erik, Sarah, Ian, Kai Jr., Rachael, Jolie, Jackson, Maya, Tayton, Rayna, and Riley; a sister, Myrtle Trenne of Alexandria; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation: 5-7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home and resumes one hour prior to the service at PioneerCare.
Memorial Service: 11 a.m. Saturday, December 21, 2013, at the PioneerCare Celebration Center in Fergus Falls.
