Orlin B. Fick, 84, of Fargo, North Dakota, died on Tuesday, September 8, 2015, at his home under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley.
Orlin Byron Fick was born on April 15, 1931, in Fergus Falls, to Walter and Edna (Schleske) Fick. He attended school at Jefferson Elementary in Fargo and Lincoln Elementary in Fergus Falls and graduated from Washington High School in Fergus Falls in 1949. In 1955, he attended the Dunwoody Baking School in Minneapolis, followed by the American Institute of Baking in Chicago, in 1957.
He served in the United States Air Force from 1950-1954. During the Korean War, he served in Newfoundland and Las Vegas, NV, as a part of Food Service Bakeries. He received the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal.
On April 11, 1954, he was united in marriage to Berdella Ann Strand in Elbow Lake, MN. Together, they raised two children. Orlin worked at Park Region Bakery in Fergus Falls for one year, at the Pillsbury Company in Springfield, IL, as a New Product Technician, for five years and at J.F. Milling, as a Product Development and Quality Manager, for two years. He was employed at International Multifoods for thirty-one and a half years, as Manager of Product Development and Quality Assurance in the Bakery Products Division, retiring in 1994.
Orlin was a member of the Ashby American Legion Post # 357 for thirty-one years. He was also active in churches in Springfield, IL, Bellville, IL, Lockport, NY, New Hope, MN, Maple Lake, MN, Fergus Falls, MN, and Fargo, ND. He enjoyed playing accordion, organ and keyboard at numerous events and also enjoyed woodworking.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Edna; his wife, Berdella, in 2002; two brothers, Wilbert and Gerald Fick; his sister, Marlys Herzog and his brother-in-law, Don Herzog.
Orlin is survived by his children, Barry (Gail) Fick of Lakeville and Cheryl (Mark) Bennett of Maple Grove; three grandchildren, Sarah (Robert) Haroth of Champlin, Brian (Andi) Bennett of Duluth and Travis Fick of Lakeville; his special friend, Helen Zahn of Fargo, ND, and her four children, Jodi (Greg) Mattson, Mary Kay (Steve) Powers, Keith Kleven and Steven Kleven and their families; his siblings, Donna Johnson, Gordon (Jeanie) Fick, Donald Fick and George (Joan) Fick; sisters-in law, Charlotte Fick and Aldoris Strand; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

Visitation: 5:00-7:00 PM on Thursday, September 10, 2015, at Olson Funeral Home in Fergus Falls with a prayer service at 6:30 p.m, and will resume one hour prior to the service at Olivet Lutheran Church in Fargo, ND
