Olaf Russell Ugstad, age 86, of Fergus Falls, died Friday, June 3, 2016, at Harmony House in Fergus Falls.
Olaf was born on December 1, 1929, to Martin and Agnes (Haldorson) Ugstad in Fergus Falls. He grew up on a farm near Carlisle and was baptized and confirmed at Hedemarken Lutheran Church in rural Rothsay. Olaf graduated from Fergus Falls High School in 1948. In April of 1953, he enlisted in the United States Army and served with the 86th Combat Engineering Battalion. He was honorably discharged in April of 1955. After returning home from the service Olaf and his brother Chester farmed the home farm.
Olaf and LaVane Carol Heiden were married at The Federated Church in Fergus Falls. They resided in Fergus Falls where they raised two sons, Brad and Wade. In 1965, he began working at the Regional Treatment Center in Fergus Falls as a maintenance worker, where he worked until his retirement in 1991.
His many enjoyments included hunting, fishing, bowling, and spending time with his family and friends. He also enjoyed coffee every morning with his friends at McDonalds. He was a member of The Federated Church and The Disabled American Veterans and served as the commander for three years.
Preceding him in death by his parents, Martin and Agnes Ugstad; a son, Bradley Ugstad; his brothers, Chester and Orville Ugstad; and a sister, Alice (Melvin) Fronning.
Survivors include his wife, LaVane Ugstad of Fergus Falls; his son, Wade Ugstad of Fergus Falls; and grandchildren, Tucker and Leila Ugstad of Fergus Falls.
