Olaf “Jr.” Olson, 82, formerly of Rothsay, died Wednesday, November 26, 2008, at the Golden Living Center of Battle Lake. He was born January 24, 1926, on the Olson farm near Rothsay, the youngest child of Mathilda (Rudh) and Olaf Olson, Sr. He attended country school at District 82, which was known as the Olson School. He enlisted in the Army and served during WW II in the 807th Military Police, serving 18 months. Following his military service, he returned to the Rothsay area and continued to farm. He served on the Rothsay Elevator Board for seven years, and was a member of the Hamar Lutheran Church and served on the church council. He also was a member of the Elizabeth Sportsman’s Club, VFW and a lifetime member of the American Legion. Olaf’s greatest pleasures in life were his horses, which were seen in parades throughout the area, his farm and his friends at the Rothsay Truck Stop. He lived his entire life on the farm where he was born until moving to the Broen Memorial Home, Fergus Falls, in September of 2005 and to the Golden Living Center in May of 2008. Preceding him in death were his parents; siblings, Cyrus, Bertram, Curtis, Berenice, Evelyn, Edna and Alice and one niece, Angeline (Larson) Green. Survivors include many friends and relatives including the following nieces and nephews, Diane Dailey, Clifford Olson, Ginny Larson, Lois Stinogel, Mary (David) Bender, Kathy (James) Striegler, John (Evalyn) Carlson, Dan (Delores) Carlson, Phil (Nancy) Carlson, Steven (Karen) Carlson and Peter (Carmosina) Carlson. Visitation: 4-6 p.m. Sunday at the Grina Funeral Home in Rothsay, and resumes one hour prior to the service at the church.
