Nora Fiss

Nora Josephine Fiss, 94, a resident of Fergus Falls, died Saturday, January 8, 2011 at the Lakeland Hospice House in Fergus Falls. She was born March 22, 1917, in Pelican Rapids, Minnesota, the daughter of Engebret "Embrick" and Olga (Christianson) Arntson. She grew up in rural Barnesville, graduating from Pelican Rapids High School in 1934. She attended Dakota Business College in Fargo, graduating in 1938. On November 16, 1940, she married Walter Fiss in Rothsay. They resided in Fargo. After Walter joined the Air Force, they moved to Hawthorne, California where Nora worked at the Los Angeles airport. She became payroll manager for Western Airlines. She moved to Detroit Lakes, Minnesota after Walt's death in 1973. In October of 2006 Nora moved to the Mill Street Residence in Fergus Falls. Nora loved needlework, sewing, volunteering, traveling, reading and walking. She was a member of First Lutheran Church in Detroit Lakes. Preceding her in death were her husband, Walter; her parents; a sister, Myrtle (Earl) Haglund, in 1996; three brothers, Ervin "Manley" (Dorothy) in 1997, Elerth (Rosella) in 2004, and Elvin in 2005; a niece, Sandra Arntson in 1992; and a great-nephew, Landon Arntson in 2007. Survivors include a sister-in-law, Florence Arntson of Pelican Rapids, MN; nieces Jlayne Thom (John) of Andover, MN, Susan Arntson of Pelican Rapids, MN, Darby Swanson of Kennewick, WA, and Darla Raske (John) of Glencoe, MN; and nephews, Erlyn (Jan) Haglund of Cedar Creek, TX, Galen Haglund of Detroit Lakes, MN, Elerth "El J" Arntson (Denise) of Bismarck, ND, Ennis Arntson (Pat Hedlund) of Rice, MN, Ellis "Buzz" Arntson (Lenora) of Barnesville, MN, Bruce Arntson (friend-Lorna) of Nashville, TN and Daryll Arntson (Mary) of Fergus Falls; and numerous great nieces and nephews and special friends. Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, January 14, 2011 at the church with a public prayer service at 6:30 p.m. to be held at Hope Lutheran Church. Visitation will resume one hour prior to the service at the church.
