Neola Jacobson

April 10, 1919 — June 20, 2007

Neola Jacobson, 88, of Fergus Falls, died Wednesday, June 20, 2007, at the Country Manor Campus in Sartell, MN. She was born April 10, 1919, in Fergus Falls, the daughter of Ninart and Mary (Dahlen) Jorgenson, and was baptized at the Aastad Lutheran Church. When she was eleven months old her family moved to Ruso, North Dakota, and farmed in that area during the devastating years of the depression. She graduated from Velva High School in Velva, North Dakota in 1936. After graduation she moved back to Aastad, Minnesota, to care for her four ailing grandparents. Neola then went on to work at Nelson's Cafe' in Fergus Falls where she met and fell in love with Joe Jacobson. They were married at Bethlehem Lutheran Church by Pastor Herman Muus on November 9, 1941. Together they farmed in Western and Orwell Township until 1969 when they moved to Fergus Falls. Neola worked in the Fergus Falls Junior High School cafeteria for 21 years. Joe and Neola had been married for 36 years when Joe died in April, 1977. Neola continued to live and maintain her home in Fergus Falls for the next 34 years. She was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church since 1942. Neola will be remembered by all for her homemade donuts, hospitality, and coffee served in glass cups. Preceding her in death were her husband, Joe Jacobson, and a brother, Arnold Jorgenson. Survivors include her three children: Janice (Jim) Erickson of Sauk Rapids, MN, Marlys (Bob) Sauer of St. Paul, MN, and Jeff (Debbie) Jacobson of Sugar Land, TX; six grandchildren and one great grandson: Tracy Mitchell and son, Christian, David Erickson, Molly (Ben Jenkins) Erickson, Jennifer Sauer, Jaclyn and Grant Jacobson; a sister-in-law, Alvina Fuder; numerous nieces and nephews; and her good friend, Helen Enquist. Memorials are preferred in lieu of flowers to the Bethlehem Lutheran Church radio broadcast, the District 544 Foundation, or the Diabetes Association. Visitation: 3-5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service at the church.
