Myrtle Lindstrom

March 6, 1924 — December 18, 2015

Myrtle Sofia Lindstrom, 91, of Cedar Rapids, IA, formerly of Fergus Falls, is now resting peacefully in the arms of Jesus. She died Friday, December 18, 2015, at Cottage Grove Place.

Myrtle (Ronnevik) Lindstrom was born to Hans and Lillie Ronnevik of Carlisle, Minnesota, on March 6, 1924. She was baptized into God's family and confirmed her faith at Hedemarken Lutheran Church, Carlisle, MN. Myrtle graduated from high school in Fergus Falls, MN, and continued her education at the Swedish Hospital School of Nursing, Minneapolis, MN, where she received her RN in 1945.She went on to the University of MN to specialize in public health nursing, and completed her public health internship in New York City. Myrtle was also a member of the Cadet Nurse Corps during WWII. She was the first Public Health Nurse of Wilkin County, MN, developing the Wilkin County Public Health Program.

On May 9, 1948, she married George Lindstrom of Wahpeton, ND. They were blessed with four children, raising them on a farm in rural Carlisle, MN, then relocating to the Washington DC metro area, where Myrtle continued her public health career for Montgomery County, MD.

Myrtle was blessed with a love for music, serving as church organist for Hedemarken Lutheran Church, Carlisle, MN, along with several churches in Maryland. She taught piano lessons to numerous students in both Minnesota and Maryland. In retirement Myrtle founded and directed the "Kor", Norwegian Choir of Fergus Falls, MN, connected with The Sons of Norway.

Myrtle was a long standing member of the Swedish Hospital Alumnae Association and Sons of Norway.

She is survived by her children, Carl Lindstrom of Ironwood, MI, Lili (Pete) Weidow of Cedar Rapids, IA, Christine (Jerry) Henderson of Dalhart, TX and Elise (Kurt) Hexum of Cedar Rapids, IA; grandchildren, Joy (Dave) Roelfs, Sara (Scott) Stover, Taylor (Peter) Johnson, Julia (Jeremy) Joiner, Mychal (Krista) Hexum, Linnea (Travis) Offerman; 8 great grandchildren; a brother, Jorolf Ronnevik; and many nieces and nephews.

Myrtle was preceeded in death by her parents, Hans and Lillie Ronnevik; along with 4 siblings who died in childhood; her husband, George Lindstrom; 5 sisters- in -law, including Alice Ronnevik; and 3 brothers-in-law.

Memorials may be made in Myrtle Lindstrom's name to the Salvation Army of Fergus Falls, MN.
