Myron Dale Broschat, age 91, of Fergus Falls, died Monday, June 13, 2016, at Lake Region Healthcare in Fergus Falls.
Myron was born on July 28, 1924, to Ernest and Atilda (Meth) Broschat near Cathay, ND. He grew up on the family farm near Cathay and graduated from Cathay High School in 1941. Myron was a veteran of World War II. He served with the 110th Combat Engineer Regiment and the 99th Infantry Division in Normandy, Northern France, The Battle of the Bulge, Cologne Glain and the Remagen Bridgehead. He was awarded the Bronze star, the Purple Heart, and the Combat Infantryman’s Badge.
Myron married Dolores Harriet Wachter in 1948 in Alexandria, MN. Also in 1948, Myron graduated from North Dakota State University with a degree in Electrical Engineering. He began working for Otter Tail Power Company in Fergus Falls in 1952 and was employed there for over thirty-six years. While working there, he authored six published technical papers. He retired in 1988 as Manager of Electric Transmission.
Myron was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Fergus Falls and was a past president and active member of the Otter Tail County Historical Society. He was also a past president and past executive director of the Fergus Falls Concert Association and a current member of the Fergus Falls VFW Post 612 and the Disabled American Veterans Chapter 25.
Myron was the author of three small books and many newspaper and magazine articles, mainly on military history. In the 1960’s, he began writing the monthly Broschat Report, which included stories about history, science and technology for Otter Tail Power employees to read. Myron was frequently called on to speak at service clubs and historical society meetings and for Memorial Day and Veteran’s Day programs.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Atilda Broschat; and his wife, Dolores Broschat; and his brother, Richard Broschat.
Myron is survived by his two sons, Baron (Peggy) Broschat of Bloomington and Robin (Tammy) Broschat of Omaha, NE; one grandson, Brandon Broschat of Omaha, NE; and one brother, Emery (Mary Ann) Broschat of New Rockford, ND.
Memorials are preferred to the Otter Tail County Historical Society.
