Mona Lou Ophus, 76, a resident of Fergus Falls, died Tuesday, April 15, 2008, at Lake Region Hospital in Fergus Falls. She was born August 20, 1931 in Balsam Lake, Wisconsin, the daughter of Austin and Elizabeth "Betty" (Vollgren) Lundmark. She grew up and attended school in Balsam Lake, graduating in 1949. Mona graduated from the University of Wisconsin in 1953 with a degree in Elementary Education. She began her teaching career at Niagara, Wisconsin, later teaching at Minong and Rice Lake, Wisconsin, and Cresco, Iowa. On January 30, 1960 she married Roger Ophus at Rice Lake, Wisconsin. The couple lived in various locations including Rice Lake and LaCrosse, Wisconsin, Minneapolis, MN, Kansas City, MO, Des Moines and Cresco, Iowa, and Stoughton, WI. They moved to Fergus Falls in 1974. Mona loved to travel, and enjoyed visiting antique shops and craft shows. She attended FFCC taking art classes from Charles Beck, and then became a photographer, traveling and displaying her photos at Phelps Mill and other such venues. She loved art and ceramics. Mona was most proud to be a grandmother and loved spending time with her granddaughter. Preceding her in death were her parents and a sister, Donna Lundmark. Survivors include her husband, Roger, of Fergus Falls; her children, Kurt of Minneapolis, and Tia and husband Joseph of Kirkland, WA; a granddaughter, Kyrie; and two brothers, Bryon (Ann) Lundmark of Plains, MT and Bruce (Cindy) Lundmark of Amery, WI.
