Millard "Sonny" Nord Jr., 78, of Rothsay, died Monday, April 23, 2007, at his home under the care of Lakeland Hospice after a courageous battle with colon cancer. He was born August 14, 1928, in Rothsay, Minnesota, the only child of Millard and Mabel (Moen) Nord. He graduated from Rothsay High School in 1946 and entered the Army, serving in Japan. On June 10, 1950, he married Madonna Peters at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Rothsay. After their marriage he began his career in the school bus business in Rothsay, and continued there for 45 years. In 1980 he became owner/operator of Red River Trails in Moorhead, MN, where he has been to the present time. He was active in the Minnesota School Bus Operators Association, where many lasting friendships were made. In the Rothsay community he belonged to the Lions Club, was on the City Council and served as Mayor of Rothsay, was a volunteer fireman and served as Fire Chief, and was a lifelong member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church. Preceding him in death were his parents, Millard and Mabel Nord. He is survived by his devoted wife, Donna of Rothsay; daughter, Belinda (Bob) Smart of Maple Grove; son, Greg (Linda) Nord of Moorhead; and four grandchildren: Jeffery (Shauna) Smart of Maple Grove, and Casey, Alex and Emily Nord, all of Moorhead. The family wishes to thank the Roger Maris Cancer Center and Lakeland Hospice and Home Care. Memorials may be directed to either of these organizations or a benefit of the donor's choice.
